The Common Core State Standards is a set of high-quality academic standards in mathematics and English language arts/literacy (ELA). The standards were created to ensure that all students graduate from high school with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in college, career, and life, regardless of where they live.

The EAL program at Sias IS is a holistic one. Rather than being viewed as “learning machines”, students are treated as young, independent individuals. They need to understand not only the connections between language, reality and the world, but also how language is used in an international environment.

All students at Sias IS study Chinese, not only learning the Chinese language but also Chinese culture through the IB inquiry-based format. Based on students' Chinese proficiency and learning needs, Sias IS offers two levels of Chinese courses.

Sias IS provides a wide range of After School Activities (ASAs), including sports, arts, science, and academics. A variety of highly engaging classes help students explore, discover and develop their own interests and hobbies. In addition to ASAs, Sias IS offers a growing competitive sports program where students will compete against students from ACAMIS member schools.

Sias IS Outdoors brings students out of the traditional classroom and offers them the opportunity for learning in the great outdoors.  In addition, Sias IS Outdoors provides a more holistic form of education with experiential and collaborative learning. 

During school breaks, Sias IS has developed camp offerings which serve to engage students in high-level English learning and explore topics such as aviation and STEM that may not get as much time during the instructional year. Sias IS plans to offer international camps that will take students abroad for a memorable learning experience.

Sias IS  holds and attends special events to enrich the student’s life at school, such as Family Fun Day, Sports Day, Invention Convention, Lighting Ceremony, Concerts, School Football Matches, Book Week, etc. These activities are excellent opportunities for students to develop their social and communication skills while becoming further immersed in local and other cultures.

At Sias lS, we see parents as integral partners in their children's educational journey. To deepen parents' understanding of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, we regularly host Parent Academy, fostering a collaborative environment that enhances student learning. Recognizing the importance of effective communication, we also offer English language classes for parents to improve their proficiency, strengthening the parent-school connection.
